Sandringham & LYVNA Tournaments Results

The Under 13 Team 2 had a busy month in August attending the Sandringham tournament on Sunday 6 August and the LYVNA tournament on Sunday 20 August.

Sandringham

A fantastic result for the U/13-2 out at the Sandringham tournament on Sunday 6th August.  Battling tough weather conditions all day, the team went through undefeated into the finals, including winning tight games against their eventual semi and grand final opponents. They won the semi against Caulfield Red 13 to 7, with a strong 2nd half after leading by only 1 at half time. Then we met up against Sandringham in the GF and after a very tight first half the team kept focus and worked really hard to pull off the win, 12 to 7. Congratulations girls!

LYVNA

What a great effort by the U/13-2 at LYVNA on Sunday 20th August. In freezing conditions and a slow start to the day we had two early losses and a draw. However, we regrouped, dug deep and turned the day around and went on the win the remaining 5 rounds to make the semi. Their semi was very tight but we had enough of a lead to hang on to win 7 to 6. In the GF against Valley, after falling behind by 5 goals down early on, they ended up with a narrow loss, 8 to 9. They were determined and focused and that was so great to see. Well done girls!

They had good results winning all their round robin games: Southern Fusion (13-3), Traralgon (17-0), Sale (10-3), Bairnsdale (10-5), Mid Gippsland (12-3), Mornington Peninsula (7-6). They played in the Open section finals winning the Semi Finals easily against the second team from Pool A. In the Grand Final they had a slow start and despite keeping the second half score even, they were unable to close the deficit. However, it was still an incredibly effort by the girls to finish Runners Up in the Under 15 Open Section.

Kingston Tournament Results

On Sunday 24th July, the Under 11 Team, Under 13 Team 2 and Under 15 Team 3 competed at the Kingston & Districts Tournament. Thanks to all the players and parents for braving the cold and windy conditions.

The Under 11 team had a fantastic tournament finishing undefeated and on top of their ladder.

The Under 13 team had a great tournament and despite a tough first game loss against Chelsea, they went on to win 3 games, draw 1 and lose 2 more. However, they did enough to finish 4th on the ladder, but had to come up against 1st place Chelsea in the Semi Finals. Despite the loss, they had a much better performance then in the first round and progressively improved as the day went on.

The Under 15 team had some tough games, however they still played some competitive netball finishing 4th on their ladder and making their first Semi Final for the year. Despite losing a tough game, the girls gave a huge effort and should be extremely proud.

WDNA & Dandenong Tournament Results

On Sunday 1st May, the Under 11 team, the Under 13 team 1 and the Under 15 Teams 1 & 3 competed at the Waverley District Netball Tournament. It was the first tournament of the year for most of the teams and every one tried extremely hard especially in the very wet conditions. In the end both the Under 13 Team 1 and the Under 15 Team 1 were undefeated during the round robin games, with the Under 13’s winning the Reserve section and the Under 15’s were runners up in the Open Section. Also on Sunday 22nd May, the Under 11 team, the Under 13 team 2 and the Under 15 Team 2 competed at the Dandenong Netball Tournament. Below are some of the Coaches Reports from the tournaments.

Under 15 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

The Under 15 Team 1 had a great day out playing some really tough competition with only 1 or 2 goals between each game. Despite being undefeated during the round robin games, they were unable to clinch victory, going down by 2 goals in the Open section Grand Finals. However, it was a good opportunity for the girls to see how they do against teams in the higher sections.

Under 15 - Team 3 - Coaches Report

The Under 15/3 team had a tough day playing teams that were usually a couple of sections higher than them on the Thursday Night competition. However, despite losing a player early on through injury, the team finished strongly by going down to the top team by only 2 goals. It was a good effort for their first tournament of the year.

 Under 13 – Team 1- Coaches Report

Congratulations to the Under 13 Team 1 who took victory in their first tournament of the year. The girls were very excited to be at their first tournament, despite the chilly weather, and played extremely well. They did not lose a game for the entire day. What an excellent job girls.

Under 13 – Team 2- Coaches Report

What a great effort from the Under 13/2 squad on Sunday at the Dandenong & Districts tournament. It was their second tournament, but the first for some players this year.  While they came up against some tough teams throughout the 5 rounds (Chelsea, Nepean, Whitehorse who were mostly top age), all players gave it their all and stayed focused on their game plan regardless.  They had 2 wins against Kardinia 5/0 and Upper Yarra 7/0 which gave the team a lift to get them through the day. The experience they gained from the day will hold them in good stead for their next tournament. Well done to the team and thanks to the support of the parents who I'm sure enjoyed the day. The weather was also on our side and made it a lot easier for all. Also, a BIG thank you to Jemima who high tailed it to the tournament to fill in for the day.

Hoppers Crossing Results

On Sunday 20th March, the 13/U development squad and the 15/U team 2 played the first tournament of the year at Hoppers Crossing. After a tough job for the parents struggling to figure out the best way to get to Hoppers Crossing with all the road closures, the girls all managed to make it safely. And although it was a long day, they were lucky to have some great weather and play some competitive netball.

Under 13 - Development Squad - Coaches Report

The girls played 5 rounds winning one game in a strong and competitive section and in surprisingly hot conditions. It was a great experience for the players, some of which had not played in a tournament before. Well done to the team who gave it their all. Thank you to the parents for your support and I think we all enjoyed the day along with new venue and its facilities.

Under 15 - Team 2 - Coaches Report

They started off the day with a loss to Macedon Ranges by 2, as the girls were still half asleep. The day was very long and included 1 hour breaks between the games and when they had a bye, it was a 2hrs break! The girls played very well and lost one more game to Aberfeldie Thunder by 1 in the last round. Overall they won 3 games to finish on top of the ladder. In the semi-finals, they came up against Aberfeldie again. The girls played some amazing netball and with Tash’s amazing intercept in the last 20 seconds the girls forced the game into extra time. They then went on to play double extra-time but lost. It was an amazing game and all the girls should be very impressed with the efforts.

Wet Weather Policy at Waverley

With the Summer weather nearly finishing up and as we start to head into the cooler months, we thought it would be a good idea to remind players and parents of the Wet Weather Policy for Thursday Night games at Waverley.

Wet Weather Policy

All teams must turn up to play, a decision is made at the start of each round as to if it goes ahead or not. Each round is accessed individually.

  • We do play in the rain

If a game is cancelled at half time the scores will stand and 4 points will be awarded accordingly.  If a game is cancelled prior to this, the game will be a draw and 2 points will be awarded to each team.

Waverley Thursday Night Results - Season 2

Prahran Netball Association had four teams entered into the Waverley Thursday Night Spring Season in 2015. After continuing from their great performances in Season 1, we had both Under 15 teams and the Under 13 Team 2 make it into the Finals. The 13/2 team had a close semi-finals going down by two goals to the eventual winners. Both 15/U teams made it all the way to the Grand Finals, with both teams winning the Premierships. The 13/U Team 1 missed the finals by percentage and finished fifth on the Section 3 ladder. Below are the Coaches Reports from the finals.

Coaches Report – 15/U Team 1

After the disappointment of just missing finals last season, the team were determined to get into the top four.  The girls had a solid season, only losing one game during the rounds and finishing top of the Section 4 ladder. In the semi-finals, they came up against the only team that had beaten them in the rounds. It was a close first half going goal for goal, before the Prahran girls pulled ahead going into the last quarter. With speed and agility on our side, the girls ended up coming away with a 10-goal win. In the grand final, they came up against Kingston. Going goal for goal in the first quarter, the Prahran girls pushed out to a 6-goal margin at half time. Kingston started the second half strong and it was even at three quarter time. It was a tense last quarter and Kingston pulled out to a 3-goal lead with only minutes to go. After some stellar defensive work and steady goaling, the Prahran girls evened the score with 10 seconds to go, taking it into overtime.  With an extra 10 minutes to play, it was a close battle with some game saving intercepts before the Prahran girls were able to take a 2-goal lead and winning 35 – 33. Congratulations girls on a great season.

Coaches Report – 15/U Team 2

With a change up to the team, due to losing players to injury and school exchange, there were only five players remaining from the premiership winning team last season. However, still determined to put in strong season, the girls gelled together to win the majority of their games and finish second on the Section 6 ladder. In the semi-finals, they came up against WDNA, who had beaten them only a few weeks earlier. However, after a tight game and two goals down half way through the last quarter, they were able to pull it back to win by five goals. In the grand final, they came up against the top team Doncaster, who they had also lost to a few weeks earlier by 10 goals. The girls had a solid start and after going goal to goal in the first half, they were able to pull away during the third quarter, to end up winning 36 – 23 taking back-to-back premierships. And special mention to Stella Walker who played a fantastic match in defence and was awarded the MVP for the Grand Final.

Richmond Monday Night Results - Season 2

The 15/U Team 3 played in the Richmond Monday Night competition for the second half of the year. After losing multiple players and a few injuries, we recruited some of the 13/U Players to give them an opportunity to further develop their skills.

The team played very well, but started off losing majority of the games by 1. After a tough match we won the last game to qualify into the finals. We then won the Semi’s by 10 and were into the grand final. After a very tough game we won 36-29. Congratulations to all the girls for a very successful season!

Are You Ready for Finals?

Congratulations to all the teams that made it to the finals this week.

Final Times - All players to arrive 35 mins before game time. Shooters to arrive 45 mins before game time to practice. Please ensure you check the traffic before you leave to ensure you arrive on time.

  • 13/2: 6pm (court 5)
  • 15/2: 6.50pm (court 3)
  • 15/1: 7.40pm (court 4)

Player Court Time – As stated in the Prahran Netball Association Representation Guidelines…“For finals, coaches are advised to play their best team combination according to team balance and player performance at the time.  All players in 13/U must have a minimum (1) quarter court time during the finals series.   For 15/U teams, court time in the finals is at the discretion of the coach.”

Umpiring – These are some helpful suggestions that will help players leading up to the finals when it comes to umpiring decisions. Although the below rules may not have been enforced throughout the season, they will be during the finals.

  • Start/end of quarters: The umpires whistle starts and stops the game, not the siren.
  • Change of ends: At 1/4 time and 3/4 time it is a straight change of ends. You can’t go off the court or have a drink at change of ends.
  • Injury: Only the player with the injury can call time (not the coach, umpire or spectator).
  • Throw-ins: Always look down and address the line (if you don’t address the line, the umpire will reverse the decision). Your foot should not be on the line, but behind it. Ensure all players are back on court before taking the throw in (otherwise the umpire will reverse the decision).
  • Penalty Pass: the penalised player should stand beside the player taking the Penalty Pass. The umpire should not have to continually ask players to correctly stand out of play (an umpire can advance the penalty if the player doesn’t stand out of play quickly enough). The player with the ball should wait until the penalised player is standing beside before taking the pass (otherwise the umpire will reverse the decision).
  • Centre Pass: Listen and look at the umpire to see whose Centre Pass it is.  Do it quickly.  Stand clearly in the centre circle and do not step or shuffle feet. 'Stepping' in the centre circle and 'not' wholly in the centre circle is a common infringement.  It should not happen.

Good luck to all the players this Thursday. Go Prahran!

Doncaster Tournament Results

On Sunday 13th September, all teams played their final tournament of the year at Doncaster. It was a very sunny day and luckily we had both our tents up (fixed from the incident at the Traralgon Tournament a few weeks ago). All teams were determined to put in a good effort to finish off the year strongly.

As usual the Under 11 teams were strong and pulled off some good results finishing off a successful year. The Under 13 team 1 continued on their winning way by finishing top of their ladder without dropping a game. They proceeded into the Grand Final and after finishing with a draw and going into extra time, they came away victorious. It was their third tournament win of the year. The Under 13 team 2 were determined to come away with their first trophy at a tournament and played an excellent day of netball, finishing second on the ladder. They had a thrilling semi final against Caulfield that went into double extra time. After finding some composure, they scored 2 quick goals to head into the Grand Final and they continued this form to take away the winning trophy.  The Under 15 team 1 continued their record of making finals at every tournament, however they also continued their other record of going down in the semis by 1 goal. The Under 15 team 2 had a great day of netball, however just missed out on their finals finishing fifth on the ladder.

Congratulations to all the teams and coaches for putting in an amazing effort to finish off the year.

Traralgon Tournament Results

On Sunday 16th August, the Under 15 Team 3 competed at the Traralgon Tournament. The girls travelled down to Traralgon the day before and took on a Ropes Course Challenge, which they successfully completed. After a BBQ dinner, followed by popcorn and a movie, the girls had an early night ready for the next day. Although it was quiet chilly in the morning, it turned into a beautiful day for the most part, with some strong wind around lunchtime that spelt the end for one of our Prahran tents!

The girls started the first game of the day against Leongatha with a close 1-goal win, although we suffered a knee injury near the end of the game.  They then came up against the home team Traralgon and after a close battle, including a grazed knee, the girls finished with a two-goal loss. Next up was Diamond Creek 3 and another close game ensured. Trailing with only minutes to go, Prahran scored a couple of quick goals to come away with a draw. The girls then came up against Pakenham, where they came away with a very convincing win, and an ankle injury. The last game before the bye was against the top team Sale. After a quick start by Sale, the Prahran team fought back in the second half but it just was not enough.

The girls then had a break for lunch (which is when our tent flew away) followed by their last game of the day against Diamond Creek Orange. It was another tough game and with some sore and tired players, they gave it their all. In the end, the girls finished fifth on the ladder and just missed finals. It was such a great effort by the girls and the best tournament result for the Under 15 team 3 this year. Congratulations!

Sandringham & Whitehorse Tournament Results

The Prahran Rep teams have had a busy couple of weeks competing at back to back tournaments including Sandringham on Sunday 2nd August and Whitehorse on Sunday 9th August.

Under 11 – Coaches Report

The Under 11 teams competed at both the Sandringham and Whitehorse Tournaments. At the Sandringham Tournament, team 1 had 2 wins and 3 losses (two of these were by only 1 goal) and team 2 had 1 draw and 4 losses (again two of these were by only 1 goal). Backing up the following week at the Whitehorse Tournament, both the Under 11 teams had some great results. Team 1 had 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses (these losses were all by 1 goal) and team 2 also had 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses. Congratulations girls on a great couple of weeks.

Under 13 – Team 1 – Coaches Report

The girls competed at the Whitehorse Tournament and after already winning a couple of tournaments this year, the team was determined to build on their winning record, despite being hampered by injuries. The girls put in a gallant effort finishing the day with an even amount of wins and losses, however they finished 4th just missing out on finals.

Under 13 – Team 2 – Coaches Report

The girls competed at the Sandringham Tournament and it was a tough day at the office for them, as they came up against some strong competition. Although they were unable to come away with any wins, they fought hard and stayed positive and produced a couple of close games for the day.

Under 15 – Team 1 – Coaches Report

The girls competed at the Sandringham Tournament with only 8 players for the day, including a couple of fill ins from team 2. They played some great netball winning 5 out of 6 games and finishing on top of the combined Pool A and Pool B ladder.  In the crossover semi-finals the girls had a slow start and were down a few goals at half time. However they continued to fight back and with seconds to go they had the ball down in their goal area, however the siren went and they loss by one goal. Although so close, it was still a great effort by the girls.

Under 15 – Team 2 – Coaches Report

The girls competed at the Whitehorse Tournament and after an injury in the first game the team played the rest of the day with 8 players. They never gave up and played some higher ranked teams but still came away with a few wins to finish off a good day.

LYVNA Tournament Results

On Sunday 19th July, the 13/U team 1 & 2 and the 15/U team 2 braved the coldest morning in Melbourne in the last 18 years to play the LYVNA tournament.

Under 13 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

The girls had a very successful day winning all 7 matches in the round robin and finishing on top of their pool ladder. They played Nepean in the Semi Finals, the top team from the other pool, and after a very tough and low scoring game they were able to advance  straight through to the Grand Final. In the Grand Final they came up against Nepean again (who had won their Preliminary Final) and another tough battle ensured. The girls were down by a goal with only minutes to go and fought back to score the winning goal before the siren. Congratulations!

Under 13 - Team 2 - Coaches Report

After a slow start to the day, which saw the first round get moved to the end of the day due to frost on the courts, team 2 also had a slow start with 2 tough losses. However, they bounced back with 3 straight wins and finished the day 4th on their pool ladder. Overall a pretty solid day by the girls.

Under 15 - Team 2 - Coaches Report

The Under 15 team 2 (which comprised of half a team of fill ins) had a long day with 9 matches in the round robins. Playing in a combined Open/Reserve section, the girls came up against some tough competition. However, they didn't let that stop them and played some strong netball to finish the day with 4 wins, 4 losses, 1 draw and coming in 5th on the ladder, just missing out on finals.

Waverley Thursday Night Results - Season 1

Prahran Netball Association had four teams entered into the Waverley Thursday Night Autumn Season in 2015. After a great season by all of the teams, we had both Under 13 teams and the Under 15 Team 2 make it all the way to the Grand Finals, with the Under 15 Team 2 winning the Premiership. The Under 15 Team 1 missed the finals by 2 points, finishing fifth on the Section 4 ladder. Below are the Coaches Reports from the finals. Click here to view the photo gallery.

Coaches Report - Under 15 Team 2

The Under 15 Team 2 finished 1st on the Section 6 ladder and came up against Waverley City in the Semi Finals. Having played Waverley City three weeks earlier and losing by 18 goals, the girls were fired up. They started strongly, led by some excellent shooting by the goalers, and eventually defeated Waverley City by 10 goals. Next up were Waverley District. Again the goalers started strongly in the first half of the game, supported by some excellent midcourt work. In the second half of the game it was the defenders time to shine, again supported by the midcourters. Overall it was a great team effort by all of the girls, with them leading from start to finish. And special mention to Ellie Ansett who played a stellar match and was awarded the MVP for the Grand Final. Congratulations to all the girls for winning the Premiership.

Coaches Report - Under 13 Team 1

The Under 13 Team 1 finished 1st on the Section 4 ladder and came up against Mountain District in the Semi Finals. Having been plagued with injuries in the latter part of the season, the remaining girls were still able to pull out a strong game to win by 12 goals and advance to the Grand Final. Next up was Melbourne Waverley. Although they had won both their previous games against Melbourne Waverley during the rounds, they knew this would be an extremely tough game with only 8 players. It was a tight game from start to finish with the girls trailing by 3 goals with a minute to go. The girls continued fighting all the way to the end, going down by only 1 goal.  Although the girls were disappointed, they should be extremely proud of their efforts and look forward to another strong season next term.

Coaches Report - Under 13 Team 2

The Under 13 Team 2 finished 3rd on the Section 5 ladder and came up against Richmond in the Semi Finals. Having played Richmond only once during the rounds and losing by 14 goals the girls had something to prove. They started the game firing and were a couple of goals ahead by half time. They finished strongly winning by 9 goals and playing one of their best games of the season, advancing to the Grand Final.  In the final they came up against Whitehorse. Although missing a couple of players, the girls were determined to play a good match. It was a nervous start for the girls, with them being down by 9 goals in the first quarter. However, they fought back to within 5 goals at half time. Unfortunately they were unable to close the gap, but were happy to have made it that far. Congratulations to the girls for their Runners Up performance, it was a great way to finish off the season.

Under 13 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

The girls started the day with a convincing win against Upper Yarra. The following games were tougher however they won 3 more games and had 2 draws and 1 loss (by only 1 goal) to finish the day 4th on their pool ladder and just missing out on finals. Typical of the girls, they competed better as the day wore on, which is a true indication of their mental and physical determination. Well done.

Under 15 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

It was the first tournament of the year with a full team of 10 players. The girls came out firing, playing some great netball to start the day. Despite some minor injuries and illnesses that the girls were recovering from, they had a successful day finishing with 7 wins and 1 loss and ending up on top of the ladder for both pool A and pool B draws. In the semi-finals, they came up against Ariels and after a strong start by Prahran, they were unable to come away with the win going down by 2 goals. Congratulations to all the girls for a great day of netball.

Ballarat & Waverley District Tournament Results

On Sunday 3rd May 2015, all teams (except for the Under 13 team 1) competed at two different tournaments. Below are the Coaches Reports from the day.

Ballarat Netball Association Tournament

This was the first country tournament for the Prahran Netball Association and all the girls were excited to travel down and stay overnight in Ballarat.  It was a good opportunity for the players to bond together over dinner and a movie.  A huge thank you to our parent helpers who cooked dinner for as all (Dave, Rachel, Sharon & Sue) and to all the other parents that played chauffeur over the weekend by driving the girls to and from Ballarat.  Everyone was so supportive and made it such a successful weekend.  Click here to check out the pictures.

Under 15 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

The UNDEr 15 TEAM 2 AT the end of the Tournament. HAPPy but Exhausted!

The first game of the day was against Geelong and after a tight goal for goal start; the girls were able to pull away for a 10-goal win.  Next up was another Geelong team and again it was a goal for goal game with the girls losing by just one-goal. For the second time this year at a tournament, the two Prahran teams came up against each other in the next round. With a similar game to last time, team 2 started strong with their defenders and midcourters shutting out our attack end. With a few late goals by team 1, they were able to come away with a one-goal win. For the rest of the day they had two more wins and three more losses (which included another one-goal loss and a four-goal loss). With only 8 players for the day, the girls were extremely exhausted by the end and it was a fantastic effort for them to finish 5th on the ladder.

Under 15 - Team 2 - Coaches Report

The Under 13 Team 2 reacts to hearing that they have made the finals!!

The day started with close matches against Geelong, Golden City and Prahran team 1. An ankle injury in the Prahran vs. Prahran match saw the team down to 8 players and a one-goal loss. Next up were a couple of tough matches against Ballarat and GDFL followed by a well-deserved Bye, giving the girls some time to recover. They started the next round with all 9 players and had a close match against Ballarat FNL.  A back injury forced the team back down to 8 players, however they ended the rounds strongly with two wins to finish the day on a high.

Under 13 - Team 2 - Coaches Report

This was the first tournament of the year for the Under 13 Team 2 and all players were present and excited. The first game of the day produced a nervous start for the girls, however by the second round they bounced back with a convincing win. The girls played some very competitive netball over the day with some superb shooting by the goalers, and supported by some tough defence by the defenders and midcourters who created plenty of opportunities for the team. The best win of the day for the girls came during their match against Golden City. They were down by 5 goals at half time and came back to win by 5 goals.  Very exciting stuff! The girls were rewarded for their hard work during the day by finishing fourth on the ladder (by percentage) and making it to their first Semi Final.  Although they were unable to advance to the Grand Final, it was a fantastic effort by the girls in their first tournament of the year.

Waverley District Netball Association Tournament

Under 11 - Team 1 & 2 - Coaches Report

On a beautiful sunny day at Waverley District, our two under 11 teams were excited and ready to take to the court. Our 11/2 team had a fantastic day with three wins, one draw and one loss finishing second on the ladder and they were over the moon. With only 8 players by the end, the girls were pretty tired by the last game, but excited with their results. It was a great team effort and loudly supported by some very vocal parents. Well done to you all.

The 11/1 team came up against some tough competition in the first round against Altona. The Altona team were just too strong and big for our girls; however, they did not give up.  The girls then had two close matches going down by one goal in both, followed by two wins to finish off a fantastic day. Very proud of both teams and there were smiles all round after the medal presentation. Click here to check out the pictures.

Under 15 - Team 3 - Coaches Report

The girls fought hard all day trying to secure a win. In their last 2 games they were up against Sale and Traralgon; and after a very tight contest they unfortunately lost to them by 2 goals. The girl’s encouragement throughout the day and a constant supply of lollies kept their spirits up and ensured they tried their best in every game.

Mountain District Tournament Results

On Sunday 19th April 2015, three Prahran teams braved the chilly conditions to compete at the Mountain District Tournament.  It was the first tournament of the year for all three teams – Under 11 Team 1, Under 11 Team 2 and Under 13 Team 1.  Congratulations to all the teams for representing Prahran Netball Association so brilliantly, especially the Under 13 Team for winning the Grand Final.  Below are the Coaches Reports from the day.  Click here for more photos.

Under 11 - Team 1 & 2 - Coaches Report

Our 20 excited 11/U girls had their first tournament on Sunday. In the cold and wet conditions, our girls were amazing and never minded the weather.

Team 1 had a successful day winning all their games except for a draw with Lilydale who were the strongest team in their pool. Every player had an outstanding day and the smiles at the end of the day said it all.

Team 2 won their first game of the day and all the girls were very happy and very excited to get the nerves settled and to also have a win.  They all tried very hard for the rest of the games. These girls were so excited at the end of the day to be proudly wearing their medals.

Thanks to Bella and Jess for coaching and all the parents who braved the weather for their loud and vocal support. GO PRAHRAN.

Under 13 - Team 1 - Coaches Report

Most of us knew we were in for a cold and wet day for our first tournament of the year last Sunday as we headed off to Ferntree Gully. Regardless, the girls were in great spirits and looking forward to the day. We won the first three games comfortably and then had a tight draw, one loss and finished off with two more wins, meanwhile supporters and players were huddled under umbrellas.

We played our Semi-final against LYVNA (the top team of Pool B) and it was played in miserable conditions, goal for goal style, then we got away with a 2 goal win at the end. A fantastic all team effort. Then it was the BIG one. Nervous but ready for the challenge, the girls were given the option to play inside out of the rain but chose to soldier on in the conditions that they had become used to. It was, as it turned out, a great decision by them and they dug deep and came from behind against Mornington Peninsula (who beat us in the round robin by 6 goals) to win 8 to 6. It was a heart stopper but the girls held their nerve and we were all so proud of them.  What a great experience and confidence booster for the team, especially in the conditions. WELL DONE.
